•Graduated from Indian Institute of Science Bangalore,  post-doctoral from Yale University
•Joined University of Michigan Medical School faculty in 1990
•Joined the National Eye Institute as Senior Investigator in September 2007 at the request of NEI Director
•Currently the Chief of the Neurobiology-Neurodegeneration Repair Laboratory (N-NRL) at the National Eye Institute, NIH, USA
   RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Revealed new insights into the role of genetic susceptibility variants associated with AMD -  complement factor H (CFH)
  •  Identified novel genes, such as the neural retina-specific (Nrl) gene – plays a major role in retinal development and pathogenesis of RP
  •  Discovery of the gene CEP290 linked with early-onset degenerative retinal disease –Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA)
