How would you explain your research in 3 sentences to someone who is not in science?

Our research work has implication for patients suffering from different eye disorders, particularly glaucoma. We employ chemicals to selectively ablate ganglion cells in mice models and use it as platforms to validate cell therapies or drugs that have potential benefit for rescue of artificially induced injuries.

About your work

NMDA is an excitotoxic amino acid, which causes the retinal degeneration by cell apoptosis. Had I continued my work, I would have transplanted the bone marrow stem cells (CD34+ & VEGFR+) isolated from the mice bone marrow and observed how the stem cells regenerate into the cells lost during the NMDA injury. We wanted to do this by performing immunohistochenistry studies on mice eye sections. The regeneration can also be studied by observing different stem cell and retinal cell markers, which can be done by western blotting and RT-PCR techniques
